Your Visit

What to expect: An osteopathic consultation

Your first visit can take up to an hour, as it will include a thorough assessment prior to diagnosis and treatment. This allows you plenty of time to discuss your problem and establish what you need from your treatment. Osteopaths consider each person as an individual; therefore we take a detailed case history from you including important information about your lifestyle as well as your presenting problem and medical history.

The Assessment

To be examined properly, we usually ask you to undress to your underwear and to undertake some simple movements for us to assess your body mechanics. Using a highly trained sense of touch, called palpation, to identify any points of weakness or excessive strain throughout the body, a diagnosis may then be reached. On occasion we may need additional investigations such as x-ray or blood tests. If further investigation or treatment other than osteopathy is indicated we can refer you to the most appropriate source of help.

The Diagnosis

We will explain our diagnosis, treatment plan and management for you and answer any questions you may have before commencing treatment. You are encouraged to ask as many questions as you need to understand what we are doing! Understanding your problem will help you manage it and will sometimes accelerate your recovery while preventing relapses too.

We can provide sick notes if necessary.
